Humble Food Co. is more than just a restaurant— it’s a celebration of the resilience, creativity, and enduring spirit of the Pan-African diaspora. From the rice paddies of West Africa to the vibrant markets of the Caribbean, our dishes tell the story of those who transformed humble ingredients into something extraordinary, scarcity into abundance and hardship into hope.
This is our story. This is our tribute to the ingenuity, love, and cultural heritage passed down through generations. We believe in the power of food to connect families, heal communities, and nourish the body and soul. With every bite, we honor the kitchens and cooks who shaped us, offering a taste of home and history, while inviting you humbly to be part of this beautiful legacy and our journey forward.
LARRY FERGUSON
Founder
Larry's culinary journey began when he was 12 years old, spending every day after school with his grandparents in Charleston, SC cooking Lowcountry staples like shrimp and grits, oyster gravy and okra perloo. He began travelling to Jamaica when he was 17 years old and West Africa in his twenties, becoming enchanted with the rich tapestry of flavors, culture and heritage of the global Pan-African diaspora. After working in Black-owned restaurants in his thirties and becoming an Executive Chef, he honed his culinary voice and decided it was time to tell his own food story. Humble Food is an ode to the culture that made him who he is, and the kitchens and cooks who make us proud to have a seat at the table.
